Cotton Candy Ice Cream

It may be fall, but you would never know it here in LA.  It was 111 today!  Ugh!  My craving for hot apple cider is totally out the window.  Instead, I busted out the ice cream maker.    In the little town I grew up in, there was a TCBY in the big outlet mall about 40 minutes from my house.  And there they had the most amazing Cotton Candy Ice Cream.  I only had it a few times before I moved away, but I never forgot that wonderful flavor.  This is the closest I could come to replicating it.
Take 2 c. of half n half and pour in 1/2 c. of Cotton Candy syrup
Squirt in a couple drops of blue food coloring to give in that nice cotton candy color.  Then stir in the vanilla.  I used clear vanilla because I didn't want it to affect the color, but you can certainly use the regular.  Put the mixture in the fridge for 1-2 hours.
The next step is going to depend on which ice cream machine you have.  I use a Cuisenart.
10-15 minutes later, you should have this!
Eat it right away or store it in an airtight container and place it the freezer.

Cotton Candy Ice Cream
Ingredients
2 c. half n half
1/2 c. cotton candy syrup (I used Paragon Molta Premium from Amazon)
1 tsp. vanilla extract*
2 drops blue gel food coloring

Instructions
Measure out the half n half and pour in the cotton candy syrup
Stir in the food coloring and the vanilla extract
Let sit in the fridge for 1-2 hours
Set up your ice cream machine and pour in the cream mixture
Mix as per the instructions on your ice cream maker
10-15 minutes later you will have yummy Cotton Candy Ice Cream!

*You can get clear vanilla extract at any cake shop.  Be sure to get Wilton because some of the other brands I've tried have a strong alcohol flavor.

  5. Is the syrup concentrate or just the regular syrup? I found both at Amazon. Thanks! Sounds wonderful. I just had a Whitey's cotton candy shake and would love to make my own!
